Animal Advocates Watchdog

More letters: MacKay, Smith, Young

Dear sir or madam

As a frequent financial supporter of both animal welfare groups, I
believe the current lawsuit by the SPCA against Animal Advocates is a
waste of valuable resources that should be going toward animal
protection instead of litigation.

Both the SPCA and Animal Advocates were set up to do very important work
on behalf of those that cannot speak for themselves, and I am very
hopeful that the SPCA will soon refocus its resources to this hugely
important mission.

I therefore respectfully request that the SPCA discontinue the lawsuit
against Animal Advocates and put the money saved toward animal welfare.
Until I feel confident that my money will go toward animal welfare, and
not to lawsuits, I will not be making any more donations to the SPCA.

Yours sincerely and very hopefully

Dear Ms. Troman and members of the Board:

Today I learned of the story of "Cheech" and the BC SPCA's legal action against Animal Advocates Society of BC.

I cannot tell you how very disappointed I am in the actions of the SPCA and, in particular, how appalled I am at CEO Craig Daniell! It is quite evident to me that the Board and management of the SPCA has become so "corporately focussed" that it has forgotten about the real issue here - the care and safety of the animals.

That the SPCA is now picking on the little guy - Animal Advocates - is beyond shameful. You were completely in the wrong, yet YOU sue??? Give your heads a shake, people! Craig Daniell, obviously a control freak and a fool, should be dismissed immediately - before he causes you any further damage.

I have donated to the SPCA through the PAWS Program since April of 2004. This December I was planning to make a significant contribution. Note the word, "was". Instead, tomorrow I will discontinue my support of the SPCA and will give to AAS.

Your lawsuit against this small, passionate society is appalling and you should be ashamed of yourselves. I am outraged that my money has been used for such a ridiculous purpose!
Sincerely,

Shelley Smith

Dear Board of Directors:

It has come to my attention that you have brought a legal action against Animal Advocates Society. Animal Advocates has every right to speak the truth and, after all, there is freedom of speech in Canada isn't there? The motto "We speak for those who cannot speak for themselves" is not true in my long experience with the Coquitlam SPCA. While there are still animals kept tied up in the hot sun, cold of winter and the wet of the rainy season, isolated, no exercise, no socialization, bored and mentally stressed, the SPCA continues to ignore animal welfare.

If the donors to the SPCA knew that their money was being spent on lawyers to sue a woman that only cares about the improved welfare of animals and who is trying to make change happen to that end, they would quit donating as have I.

Yours truly,

Diane Young

A huge thank you to everyone who wrote ...from someone who has been named in the lawsuit!
And another huge thank you!
I too, appreciate all of the support
A challenge to the SPCA Board of Directors
Should this case go all the way to trial it would cost the SPCA $300,000 plus and the defendants $150,000 plus
The idea is generally not to let the case go to court but to drain resources and effort from the financially weaker party
Thank you to everyone who has written in our defense
