BC SPCA Board of Directors

My purpose in writing is to request that the BC SPCA quit squandering any more of the monies designated for the animals on this lawsuit against Animal Advocates.
Instead of trying to silence your detractors why not examine existing policies, listen to the criticism, and demonstrate an overall commitment and willingness in advancing animal welfare/reform.

It is apparent that public dissatisfaction with the SPCA is province-wide and I certainly question the motivations in pursuing such costly and time-consuming legal action. In fact, I'd say that when all is said and done all that the SPCA will have gained is further bad press.

I would urge you to immediately redirect your efforts in a more positive manner towards truly "speaking for those who cannot."

Sincerely,

Carmina Gooch

I am very upset that the SPCA is spending money that should be going to helping the animals on lawsuits against Animal Advocates of B.C. People donate their money thinking that it is going to directly help the thousand of animals in need. Instead the SPCA is spending it on expensive lawyers to try and silence a group that is making the SPCA wake up and take responsibility for their actions. This is not what people donate their money for... they donate to help the animals, not for lawyers. What is it going to take for the SPCA to realize that we the public no longer trust them? Action talks...and what actions are they actually doing to provide for the welfare of the animals in need? What do they do when we call time after time about the chained dogs that languish at the end of chains..only to be told that there is nothing they can do? What of the dogs that we tell them are being neglected and abused... what of those lives? What about the back yard breeders that breed for money..that let they animals linger in filth and feces, injured, beaten, forgotten? What about them?

I for one have had enough of the politics..I want to see some true animal welfare done. I keep hearing "we can't do anything...there are no laws" Well ...how long has the SPCA been in power"? It's time you demand that the laws are changed...to benefit these animals that so desperately need us. Why, after all these years, is it still "legal" to chain or tether a dog for it's entire life? This is NO life for any living being. Why is it OK to do this to a dog?. It is NOT... you need to make a public statement that enough is enough..we as a society will no longer accept this. Laws MUST be changed to make it a crime to do this to an animal. Isn't that what the SPCA stands for ...or am I mistaken?

Dear President,

One summer years ago, as a child, I remember being
completely immersed in jewellery making. I spent
hours and days making intricate bracelets and
necklaces by hand, made by weaving and braiding
different coloured threads together.

What inspired me then to utilize my precious summer
holiday time in such a manner was simple: I wanted to
do what I could to help animals in need.

I saw stray cats and dogs all of the time in my North
Vancouver neighbourhood. Though my heart wrenched
each time I could not save a litter of stray kittens
born in the ravine, or take a wandering dog with no
collar home, I resolved that I was not entirely
powerless.

So, I decided to sell jewellery my door-to-door and
bring all of the money I made to you, the SPCA.

You had the power to save that litter of kittens, and
find the old wandering dog a good safe place to live.

As an adult now, I think that the well-meaning child I
was is better off not knowing what her hard-earned
donation might be put towards in the present day.

The SPCA is supposed to save and care for animals.
That is why we have all donated our hard-earned money
towards you for years. Not to help straddle legal
costs for you to defend yourself against other
organizations such as the Animals Advocates Society
who, ironically, seem to be the ones who are looking
out for us well-meaning donors by questioning your
true intentions.

Please don't misdirect our good intentions.

Sincerely,
Ulara Nakagawa

A huge thank you to everyone who wrote ...from someone who has been named in the lawsuit!
And another huge thank you!
I too, appreciate all of the support
A challenge to the SPCA Board of Directors
Should this case go all the way to trial it would cost the SPCA $300,000 plus and the defendants $150,000 plus
The idea is generally not to let the case go to court but to drain resources and effort from the financially weaker party
Thank you to everyone who has written in our defense
