Lewis needs a home *PIC*

I am asking for help with this older fella and hope you will take a moment
to have a look at his photo, video and read about his story
(email me for the short video clip at lingmuir@dccnet.com). If you cannot
take him in yourself please forward this information, along with my contact
info, to anyone you think may be interested in adopting him. I can be
reached at lingmuir@dccnet.com or (604)645-2632.

Luckily, Lewis' family
knows my boyfriend, Ryan, who Lewis has bonded with and they have asked for
our help. So, Ryan and I are now caring for him as best we can until we can
find him a new home. Unfortunately, that means Lewis is in a very small one
bedroom apartment with me, my dogs, my foster dog, my cat and Ryan. All is
going well considering the little amount of space we all have to share but
this is not a situation that will work for much longer. Thankfully Lewis is
good with other dogs, ignores my cat unless she runs in front of him (she is
living in my bedroom as we don't want to take any chances) and is happy to
just be around Ryan.

Lewis doesn't need much to make him happy. All he
really wants is a companion to spend time with and a few short walks a day,
a tennis ball to chase a few times a day and a home cooked meal (or
something similar). He lives for the attention of his people and is a great
dog when getting the attention he needs.

Lewis is a nine year old Purebred German Shephard who's main caregiver
passed away a few years ago. His remaining family has done their best to
take care of Lewis since his dad's passing but have now had several life
changes occur that have led them to beleive he will do better in a new home.
His family is looking for a new home for him because they have had to move
to Texas, are having a baby any day now and the man of the family, who is
Lewis' maincaregiver now, is a pilot and away a great deal of the time. The
family is worried with the move, the new baby, the stress of a new home, new
family member and his main caregiver away so much Lewis will not fair well
with them.

The family is still taking responsibility for Lewis and trying to do all
they can to help him even though they are now out of the country in their
new home. Lewis is going to doggie daycare daily and will also be taken in
to a kennel if/when needed until he finds a new home. The family will send
money to his new family for food, pay for any vet bills etc. that Lewis may
incurr in a new home for the remainder of his life. They have also had
Lewis seen by a local vet to ensure he is in fine health recently. Lewis
was assessed by Gary Gibson, a well-known and respected dog
trainer/rehabilitator to help determine what type of home he would be best
suited for. Gary is willing to provide training and help Lewis adjust by
visiting his new home and family to ensure he settles in comfortabley and
Lewis' previous family will take care of the cost of this training as well.
Gary has told us Lewis is a good dog who is, as most Shepards are,
protective of his home and his people but not an aggressive dog. He is
loyal, well-behaved, housebroken, knows basic commands, is eager to please,
requires only short walks a few times a day and a loving companion with the
time to dedicate to him that he lives for. Lewis has been lucky in his past
and had a stay at home Grandma living with him so he is used to having
someone home most of the time. Unfortunately, he may be out of sorts, will
bark and cry when left alone for long periods of time as he is not used to
this. He is doing well at his doggy daycare and we are hoping this will
help lessen the stress he feels when away from his people. As mentioned
above, Lewis can be protective, especially of men who he does not know
coming to his home. However, with proper introductions he is fine. Lewis
would be best suited for an older couple with a calm home where there is not
much change but would also do well in a dog savvy/breed savvy home where he
will get the guidance to adapt to changing situations.

I have been very impressed with Lewis and how well he has adapted to all the
change he has gone through so far and hope to be able to help him find the
type of home he deserves. He is a very big boy who is a big softy and needs
a home where his sensitive side will be appreciated. Please help us find
Lewis a new home.

Thank you,

Amanda Muir
