AAS had a provision for exercise added *LINK*

It is wonderful to see that AAS's provision for exercise was incorporated into a dog control bylaw in a town in Ontario. We wonder how many other places have copied it? Many we hope.

Beginning in 1995, AAS took the North Vancouver District humane standards to every mayor and council in the Lower Mainland, with this section added to it:

the opportunity for periodic exercise sufficient to maintain good health, including the opportunity to be unfettered from a fixed area, and exercised regularly, under appropriate control; and eventually had the humane provisions added to the dog control bylaws in eleven municipalites.

Surrey added:

Where the Poundkeeper has reason to believe that a dog is not receiving proper care, treatment, or shelter, the Poundkeeper may enter into premises at any reasonable time to determine the health and well-being of a dog on the premises.

Burnaby added:

The dog has a non-metallic surface on which to stand and sit.

Lions Bay added:

No chaining or tethering of unattended dogs.

How humane standards for dogs became part of dog control bylaws in 11 Lower Mainland municipalities
In spite of the humane bylaws the Burnaby SPCA said it couldn't do anything for "Judith" *LINK* *PIC*
Do you think the "new improved" SPCA is doing more for chained dogs now? Think again
One would think in our humane times
