August 12, 2005. For immediate release. The Vancouver SPCA is seeking the public's help to locate Stanley, a seven-year-old Doberman stolen from the Vancouver Shelter on Friday, Aug. 5th. A young Caucasian male who claimed to be interested in adopting the dog took Stanley for a walk but never returned to the shelter.

"The young man had come in the day before and expressed interested in adopting a dog," says Mark Takhar, manager of the Vancouver SPCA. When he returned on Friday afternoon the man and a friend took Stanley to the park across the street from the shelter to get to know him better. "When potential adopters take a dog for a walk, we require that they leave a driver's licence or other photo identification to ensure they will return," explains Takhar. "In this case, the man's ID was from Vernon." When Stanley didn't return after a short time, staff searched the area and alerted the SPCA's emergency patrol staff to watch out for the dog.

"We called the police the next day and they determined that the young man is now living at a Vancouver address but they haven't been able to locate anyone living at the home," says Takhar. "We are desperate to have Stanley safely returned to us. He's such a wonderful dog and we are issuing a plea to the public to please let us know if they see him anywhere."

The young man who stole the dog is approximately 5'6" with a slender build and dirty blond hair. According to his ID, he is 20 years old. Anyone with information about Stanley's whereabouts is asked to please call the SPCA emergency line at 604-879-7343 or the Vancouver Police Department.
