Animal Advocates Watchdog

This speaks volumes about the low ethics of the SPCA. No real animal welfare organization would even consider letting a 20 year old, especially with "dirty blond hair" have a dog. Stanley was about to be sold down the river. If the SPCA didn't intend to let Dirty Blond buy Stanley, they wouldn't have let Dirty Blond take him out, would they?

This turns my stomach. It means that not as much has changed at the SPCA has I had hoped.

Ten years ago my dear friend, Elizabeth Eckert, went into the North Vancouver SPCA to apply to volunteer. She waited at the counter while two goons came in and said they were looking for a Dobie. With only barely looking up, the SPCA employee hooked a thumb in the direction of the cells. The thugs cruised up and down and then left because they didn't fancy any victims and said that they would go look at another SPCA.

Elizabeth was sickened and angry and left shaking. When she heard about Animal Advocates she offered her volunteering skills to us and became our best supporter and one of our dearest friends. She wanted so badly to make the SPCA never sell another victim to a clearly bad person. She died before the SPCA started the lawsuit against AAS for saying many things, among them that the employees in the Lower Mainland are uncaring louts who don't give a damn about animals and that selling them or killing them is all the same to them. We accused the SPCA of selling dogs to anyone who paid, just like selling car parts, but with less customer service.

We feel certain that the SPCA is killing considerably fewer dogs than it did even a few years ago. For one thing, it has fewer dog-catching contracts with municipalities, thanks to the SPCA's long history of lousy service to those customers too. And then there are the hundreds of women who are rehoming dogs so many dogs are not ending up in an SPCA in the first place. And of course, there is that pesky internet watching its every move and now the media is too.

We wish we could say that the SPCA is killing fewer cats, but it just killed 90 cats in Kamloops in May, so the cat disposal business is still in full disposal mode.

We wish we could say that the SPCA had stopped selling dogs to creeps, but it looks like we can't.
