I stopped donating to the SPCA in 1998 when they killed a dog that I was adopting. Previously, I had been a volunteer at the SPCA shelter and witnessed many incidents at the shelter that were sufficient grounds for my ceasing to donate to the SPCA, but I continued on for the sake of the dogs. The killing of Dudley and the SPCA's lack of any humane or ethical consideration in the killing of him was the incident that made me resolve to stop supporting the SPCA. I did not know of any other animal rescue organizations at the time, but I made an effort to find them and AAS was one of the rescue organizations I found.
