Below are some sections of the new BC SPCA Powerpoint donor outreach program
DONOR LUNCHEONS OR TEAS
• We’d like CACs to plan a Donor Event in 2006 (Note: CAC is the local branch Community Advisory Committee)
• Strategies your CAC can sue to communicate with, and cultivate, your donors or top donors: Luncheon/Teas:
• Enable you to meet your donors
• Dispel myths
• Target a message to donors
• Ask for their support
• For Branches with a large donor base, the invitation may only go to major donors, or long-term donors
• The goal of outreach is to make the donor feel closer to the organization. The closer they feel the more they are liking to give, and give larger amounts
• Luncheons can be expensive (the cost of food and rental)
• Try a high tea, with tea, coffee and cakes/biscuits
• Do it when the older donor can make it (at lunch or in the afternoon – not in the evening)
• You could get a sponsor. Financial planners are often looking for such opportunities
• The luncheons also provide an opportunity to tell them about the future plans for the Society of Branch
• The CEO and President have attended many
• Some luncheons have resulted in major gifts
• Donors are stakeholders in the Society & local Branch
• We should (give) our donors regular reports on how their money is being spent and on our current and future needs. Example: Victoria Report goes (quarterly) to major donors in the Victoria area. This report has gone out twice so far in 2005
• It has resulted in a single gift of $5,000
• A Charitable Remainder Trust (valued at $50,000)
• Dispelled myths about the Branch and the Society
• You should let the donors know what you have done, what your plans are and what your needs are. Example: In 2006 the branch will need:
• $52,000 for medical care for homeless animals
• $48,000 to spay and neuter homeless animals
• $300,000 to shelter and care for homeless animals
