Animal Advocates Watchdog

The SPCA has said for years that there is no way to keep track of statistics regarding animals deaths, euthanasia rates etc. But it can tell you how many animals were adopted. The very same method can be used to tell how many animals are put to sleep or lost, or stolen, or died in the kennels or whatever.

The SPCA shelters and many others all on the program use it; a program called Petwhere that the Delta Humane Society and Langley Animal Protection Society use as well, I believe.

The computer program that keeps track of adoptions also keeps track of transferred animals, animals that have been euthanized, animals that have come into the shelters injured or deceased (ie. wildlife or domestic animals found dead and brought in for cremation). These stats can be tallied daily, weekly, monthly, yearly and are tallied and sent to Head Office each day by all shelters using this program.
This information is there but it is up to management at each shelter to keep it accurate and ensure all staff are using the system and using it properly.

Every animal, dead or alive, including wildlife is supposed to be accounted for. Each animal is supposed to be entered into the computer and given an animal # regardless of its reason for entering the shelter. There is then a section in the program to input the reason for entry and all other pertinent information. There is a section for any animal that has been euthanized to have a reason noted for the euthanasia. The reason, as well as the information regarding who did the euthanizing, must be entered or it comes up as an error.

To still be saying there is no way to keep track of these stats is ridiculous and unbelievable in this day and age. Yet, that is what the SPCA continues to say over and over and the public believes it.

Why not be honest!?

If there is no honesty then there is no awarness of problems for people to be concerned about. If people could see the truth maybe they would believe that there still is a huge overpopulation problem. Could see that there is still animal cruelty going on. See that animals come in starved and injured by their 'caregivers'. See that there are still huge problems and things need to change. All is not well because shelters suggest they no longer kill the animals they take in and there is a way to prove it. The numbers would speak for themselves if they were ever actually shown to the public as requested.
