Dear Madam,

It is a very sad day when the very people who claim to exist for the betterment of animals' health and welfare, namely veterinarians, desert their duties and are seen to condone the cruel and unnecessary practices that exist within the farming industry. In this particular case, I am referring to the production of foie gras and the needless, barbaric practice of force feeding geese for the sake of one more luxury food product that we humans can, in turn, shove down our throats.

It is a sad commentary on the state of our society when animals continue to suffer for the sake of human greed and arrogance. While we may consider ourselves better educated and more sophisticated than our ancestors, quite clearly we have not advanced at all.
