Animal Advocates Watchdog

The San Francisco SPCA has had a real, working, active partnership with cat rescuers since 1993

Lana Simon, director of Pacific Animal Foundation, has been sending information on humane feral cat management to the SPCA for many years. She was not included in the SPCA's advisory groups. Lana does not believe that keeping cats in house or apartment confinement their whole lives is ethical or humane, as the SPCA does. Perhaps its advisory groups were chosen so that there would be no inconvenient debate about this basic ethical question.

The San Francisco SPCA has had a real, working, active partnership with cat rescuers since 1993. The BC SPCA at last has changed its policy from killing all ferals as they come in, to not killing them. Fine words - but where is the action? Until there is action from the SPCA, these are more paper promises only. The new policy is full of SPCA P.R. speak. Words and phrases like, broad based participation, aims, supports the concept, promotes affordable sterilization, education, strict guidelines, Five Freedoms, community problem that requires broad based participation, are meaningless except as P.R. while the SPCA continues to refuse any assistance to the real workers and refuses to set up that "broad based" program.
