AAS asked to influence destruction decisions

I was asked to attempt to influence the decisions made in this case by someone who has met the female dog "Alize" and says she is not a dangerous dog. This is my answer:

I have no influence in matters of legal seizure. Pit bulls are not a safe breed of dogs no matter how nice some are, and of course, some are nice. The underclasses are not only increasingly arming themselves with guns that kill innocent children like Jane Creba, but dogs that kill children too. If my grandchildren lived near these Pit Bulls, I would be leading the fight to have them removed and to ban the breed. I have never met a dog I didn't like, but there are breeds that I think have no place in a civilized society, and Pit Bulls is one of them.

Have you contacted any Pit Bull rescuers? Not that they are likely to be able to offer to take Alize. Finding decent homes for family breeds of dogs is hard enough - finding decent homes for breeds meant to fight to the death is, for all practical purposes, impossible. Moving Alize to the wrong hands may only result in a life of suffering for her. She may spend the rest of her life in a pen, muzzled and lonely. In my opinion, the root cause of Pit Bull suffering is that they are deliberately bred to fight.

It is not the neighbours, the District of North Van (where they were when they killed the cat), the City of North Van (where they live), or the assessor, Gary Gibson of Custom Canine, or society in general, that is in the wrong, it is breeding living weapons that is wrong.

By the way, the Vancouver SPCA is the paid dog catcher for the City of North Van (but not the Districtof North Van) and if it kills Alize it will be because it is paid to protect people by killing dangerous dogs. The SPCA's mandate does not include protecting people, just protecting animals, but contracts to protect people pay.

Dog catch and destroy contracting is only one of the things the SPCA does that is unethical in my opinion. I said many years ago that only the law should protect people from dogs, not animal welfare societies. Where is the animal welfare in killing Pit Bulls for money?
