SPCA seeking Island person

Mar 15 2006

Do you love animals and want to help create a more humane, caring society for homeless and abused animals in B.C.?
The BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BC SPCA) is currently seeking somebody from the upper region of Vancouver Island or Powell River to join its provincial board of directors.
The individual would fill the volunteer position of regional director for Upper Island, which encompasses SPCA branches in Comox/Courtenay, Campbell River, Port Alberni/Clayoquot and Powell River.
Founded in 1895, the BC SPCA is a non-profit society dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to domestic, farm and wild animals in B.C. Through its 36 branches and adoption centres located throughout the province, its two veterinary clinics in Vancouver and Prince George and its provincial office in Vancouver, the society helps 50,000 animals in need each year and carries out nearly 6,000 formal investigations into cases of animal abuse or neglect.
The BC SPCA's 16-member board of directors has representatives from around the province and meets six times a year to oversee the financial management of the society and to establish policies, rules and regulations to carry out the SPCA's ongoing operations, programs and activities. Candidates must be an active member of the society and be willing to commit approximately 100 hours annually to serve as a board member.
Nominations for regional directors close on April 10 and voting takes place between April 17 and May 11.
If you'd like more information about serving as the regional director for Upper Island, contact Brian Houlihan at the BC SPCA's provincial office, (604) 647-5503, (bhoulihan@spca.bc.ca). More information about the BC SPCA is available online at .
