I asked my vet if he did declawing. He said yes, there was a demand for it

Declawing is illegal or considered inhumane in many countries around the world, including the United Kingdom, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, Israel, Yugoslavia, Australia, New Zealand and Brazil.

I asked him if his clients are fully aware of what happens to their cat, and he said they are, but they want it done regardless.
He says when he asks them if they wouldn't prefer to find another home for their cat, that people say that is out of the question - that they would rather have their cat "euthanized" than rehome it.
He says only about 6 cats a year are declawed at his clinic, but he works at one of two veterinaty clinics servicing a human population of around 12,000.
I think we have to lobby the Canadian Veterinary Association to stop this barbaric practice - now.

Are tendonectomy (tenectomy) or laser surgery more humane alternatives to conventional declaw surgery?
Sparky - as always, there is the odd exception
Declawing is bad enough, BUT what about the practice of cutting the cats' tendons?
Tendonectomies render the cat unable to use the front part of their paws
