SLAPP suits seemed designed to prevent freedom of speech, by bankrupting the defendant.
The party who sues, usually the large corporation or group, merely slowly steamrolls over the little guy - in this case, Judy Stone and the Animal Advocates Society.
If the SPCA manages to win the case because Ms. Stone can no longer afford to defend herself, is that a victory? For whom, and to what end?
If the SPCA loses their case, will they be required to repay the money they have caused her to use to defend herself against their allegations? I certainly hope so.
I too, wonder where the SPCA is getting the many thousands of dollars that they are using to sue AAS.
They have never answered my requests for information, nor have they answered anyone else that I know of. The cost of this lawsuit is not shown on their financial records.
I wonder how many animals could have been helped with the money that the SPCA uses to silence its critics. This is very sad and shameful.
