Why does every tragedy in life have to come back to how a human suffers?

I totally agree with Diane and due to her own personal experience, to then have someone tell her to watch how she states things is a slap in the face....she's been through it and survived it and thus can speak to it as she feels necessary.

I know *nothing* infuriates me more than when a story comes out about an abused animal and many of the readers reply talking about how that deed would then lead into *human abuse*. The focus then is on people and the animal is forgotten. Good gosh....why does every tragedy in life have to come back to how a human suffers...why can't humans sympathize with other creatures that also suffer tragedy.

It seems many cannot relate to the suffering or feel the pain of another living being unless they humanize it. IMO the animal is abused again....they aren't even given the acknowledgement of the horrors they have survived or didn't survive.

I think we should recognize their suffering for them and what they are, not make the focus on how that could then lead into something that affects humans. Because of this, nothing is really done until it does affect humans....which is a shame. The animal suffered in vain.

No one cared about the rabbits until it affected the flowers people planted or their pocketbooks.

Why does every tragedy in life have to come back to how a human suffers?
I have felt the same way Lisa does for a long time
Lisa Hutcheon's point brings to mind a further question: "Is their a purpose to suffering?" For animals...
