Nichola tries to catch Picasso and emails the Burnaby SPCA when she is unsuccessful *PIC*

"Just wanted to let you know there is currently (2017hrs 2008-Nov-26) a blue healer/border collie mix dog hanging out at Burnaby Mountain Park (Centennial Parkway by Horizons). I let Burnaby SPCA know at around 1615hrs and they came, only staying for five minutes. (they did not see the dog as they didn't wait around long enough) An Officer from the SPCA gave me a leash and told me to call him when/if I caught the dog. The dog had been running in circles watching as cars ran by. I was able to get close enough to the dog to pet it but, unfortunately didn't have a leash at the time. I spent over an hour trying to catch it but, when I tried to grab it, I scared it. I went back to the Park at around 2000hrs and found the dog lying next to a sign post on the right side of the road by the lower gravel parking lot. Again, I attempted to get the dog but, it charged at me numerous times. (obviously scared) We brought the dog some dog cookies and food and it appeared to be starving. The dog is slim in size and has black, tan a white markings. It does NOT have a collar. It appears as though the dog has been dumped there as it keeps running in circles and approaches trucks from time to time. (the dog was NOT aggressive when it was light outside) I was concerned about leaving the dog tonight as it is bitterly cold but, I have left a message with Burnaby SPCA again, letting them know that the dog is lying next to the No Tobogganing sign at the lower parking area. I also called the Emergency SPCA number and spoke to a female who said she would attempt to go by the Park tonight (after picking up two injured animals) I hope that someone will be able to save this dog as it is very slim and scared. Unfortunately, I was unable to catch the dog myself....as I really just wanted to make sure it was okay.
PLEASE let me know if you get this and if someone has been able to pick the dog up.
Thank you,
Nichola" (last name removed)

The BC SPCA's mandate is to protect animals from people, not to protect people from animals

What did BC SPCA Head Office tell Nichola?

I thought the SPCA was in the saving business
It makes me sad to know that I could have helped
