Are we still in the middle ages?

Yes, my mind is boggled and I am shaking my head at the thought that there are actually people out there, who seriousely believe that humans were given dominion over animals.
Are we still in the middle ages, or is this the twenty first century?
It is bejond comprehension also, that there are people who believe the seal hunt has overwhelming support in Canada, or elsewhere and the seal population has to be controled and that the slaughter is humane.
Since when do humans have the right to control any sentient and since when is willful killing humane?
To my minde, any human, who kills an other sentient for any reason other than self defense, is nothing short of a savage.
When I read what this person has written about Animal rights groups, I have to remind myself, that these people are few and far between, otherwise one would despair about humanity.
