There are mornings when I read the Times Colonist and cannot help but wonder who writes the Opinion Page. This morning is certainly on of those mornings.
The sentences, "The whales aren't just there for the entertainment of the paying public. They're for the education of school children and the study of scientists", and "Tuvaq wasn't like a big whale requiring a lot of sea space. His small flippers and tail were just right for his pool", certainly attracted my attention. This is the equivalent of saying that we as humans have the right to treat any sentient living creature anyway we want.
Does the writer have any scientic or animal backround to back up his statements or is the writer simply a person who also believes a rabbit can be happy in a small cage all of its life if once a day fed pellets and water. Oh - and when reminded - the kids change the filthy cage once a month?
Almost unbelievable out-dated, ill-informed propaganda for the performing animals industry.
