The American Red Cross is NOT allowing hurricane survivors to take pets with them to shelters. This policy is resulting in many pets being left behind at rallying points such as the Superdome. Already traumatized people and animals are being forced to endure yet another horror as they are wrentched apart.
Please call the Red Cross at 1-800-HELP-NOW or 1-800-435-7669 and tell them that you will NOT be donating until they treat animals as family members. You can cite the case of Snowball a tiny Bichon Frise who was snatched from his owners (a nine year old boy) arms during the Superdome evacuation. Snowball desperately scratched at the bus doors in an attempt to join his owner. His owner screamed all the way to Houston to the point of throwing up.
(Snowball is now in the care of the Louisiana State Veterinary Association and is fine)
Please, please help Katrina's forgotten victims.
