I feel that this programme is valuable and of enormous value to the city's animals

I have no reason to suppose that the Nanaimo SPCA did anything wrong with the $25 000 allotted by the City in 2002 for the Spay/neuter programme. I know that the local SPCA helped some of the local groups with their spay/neuter programmes.

We used to drive two or three times a week for our local SPCA. On many occasions my husband and I picked up cats for people with no transportation for reasons of emotional or physical disabilty, or just being too poor to have a car, and took them to the vets to be fixed. Then we drove them home again.

I note that Mayor Korpan did not refer to this programme in his comments. He only criticised the head office. Another councillor voted against the grant in 2004 as he said he didn't have time to read Nanaimo shelter manager Lorrain Chiorando's submission. Therefore, his reasoning was that he couldn't vote for it.

I feel that this programme is valuable and of enormous value to the city's cats. I don't mind which group runs the programme. It is a disaster for the cats when grants like this are not made. I would like a similar programme to be started for dogs as there are many unwanted litters in the Nanaimo area and probably everywhere across the province.

As usual the animals pay for people's folly. If only animals could vote!

BC SPCA revises its feral cat policy
Let it be seen, to be believed.
The list of groups consulted or recommended by the SPCA is pathetically short
Okay SPCA - time to stop talking and start doing. Let's get spaying and neutering those feral cats! (And not just one day a year).
City of Nanaimo cuts off s/n grant to Nanaimo SPCA
"Scandalous misuse of funds at the provincial level."
Perhaps the SPCA will sue the mayor of Nanaimo

1994 policy
Trap/Neuter/Return for feral cats has been well researched all over the world and, without exception, found to be the most effective and compassionate
Until there is action from the SPCA, these are more paper promises only
