I used to try and help on the reserves. The sights and pain the animals I saw were in are indescribable in many cases. Even the best circumstances were unacceptable to many of us.
One incident I need to speak out about. A few years ago about 6 male dogs were neutered and instead of being put back on the 4 ft chains attached to bumpers these dogs came from, pens were built to contain them with well constructed dog houses inside (unacceptable I agree but the best we could get agreement from the Natives on).
About a week after the last pen was constructed I received a phone call telling me all the dogs were dead. Seems the Chief's son decided they were not real dogs anymore now that they were neutered and simply shot every single one of them in their pens.
Everyone on the reserve knew who did it and nothing was ever done. I never again helped an animal if it had to go back to that Reserve.
