Cruelty at home

Letter
Published: Thursday, August 03, 2006

The brutal massacre of 50,000 Chinese dogs is absolutely appalling.

But equally appalling is the horrendous cruelty that happens every day in Canada, and the lack of public outcry and media attention that surrounds it.

Every day in Canada, chickens in slaughterhouses are scalded alive in defeathering tanks.

Laying hens and pigs are crammed into tiny cages and stalls, and cows are branded, castrated and dehorned without anesthetics.

This is horrific cruelty which we can prevent, but the public and the media ignore it.

Why?

Perhaps it's because we'd have to change our habits in order to avoid supporting it.

We can be mad at the Chinese government without having to change ourselves.

Be the change. Do something.

A sick nation

What a sick nation China is to brutally kill 50,000 dogs to combat rabies. I would like to take the ones that beat those dogs and do the same to them.

I would never think of travelling to this country, and animal lovers should protest this action by refusing to spend either their time or money there.

Deplorable behaviour

I can't imagine how people feel when their government takes their dog away and clubs it to death right in front of them.

It seems like every other day I read about something deplorable being done in China.

How about the executions and organ-harvesting that goes on?

Why is our government rushing over there to do business with these people?

We should not be supporting a country that has no regard for life.

We should be distancing ourselves from them.

Canada equally barbaric

Letter

It appears that China is following in Canada's footsteps.

Both now excel in barbaric massacres.

The inhumane slaughter of dogs and seals is cruelty beyond belief.
