Animal Advocates Watchdog

The people running the Coquitlam shelter tried to find another alternative and they found us. We are BC's only hospice for cats. Forgotten Felines will take any cat that is not perfect and house them at the shelter or in our Aids program, where we give cats with Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV or Feline AIDS) to people that are HIV/AIDS positive. We supply food/litter/vet care and the cats must be returned to us if the people are not able to care for them any longer.

So now we have thirty-nine cats from the Coquitlam shelter residing in our mobile home at our Surrey shelter.

This is the first time that a city shelter has gone the extra mile for their cats and didn't kill them, that we know of. The cats are safe here and the staff from the Coquitlam shelter are visiting on a regular basis to snuggle their kitties. The cats are very loving and with many of them their test result have improved greatly, meaning that they can have a full recovery. We will test these cats until they are adoptable and I believe they will all get to that point. The Coquitlam shelter staff are buying them beds with their own money and trying to help here as much as possible. I have never been more impressed with animal control people as I am with them.

The Coquitlam shelter is planning to have a pub night to raise money for these cats and the City of Coquitlam donated $600 to help with the costs of moving the mobile.

Maybe we can start a new trend and actually save cats instead of just finding excuses to kill them off.

I think we should not allow animal control agencies to kill animals just for being sick. Can you imagine how fast people would develop alternatives if killing was not a choice?
