Victoria's Animals Get Lots of Help from GVAC *PIC*

Greater Victoria Animals' Crusaders has been getting a lot of deserved praise in the media lately. Some of its achievements are:

GVAC is providing a monthly "Vets for Pets" Street Clinic at the street shelter, "Our Place", 713 Johnson St. This clinic provides low-income and the homeless with free access to veterinary care for their animals as well as free spay and neuter. Good food, collars, leashes, portable water containers etc, are also provided. Our Street Clinic Program started in June of 2006 and is continuing monthly with great success.

GVAC also provides psychologically comforting and physically healthy in-home foster care for homeless animals, pays the vet bills for their surgeries and other treatments, and boards animals belonging to women and children in transition houses.

Recently GVAC fostered a pregnant dog who gave birth to 8 healthy puppies for John, a street person who first asked another animal agency for assistance and was told that he would have to surrender his dog and the pups to them. Veterinary care and x-rays were required and were provided by GVAC.

We work closely with many real animal welfare groups providing foster care in loving homes while owners get well and find suitable accommodation for themselves and their pets.

GVAC also helps with cat "hoarding" situations. This entails going into the homes, removing the cats, vetting the cats and rehoming the cats.

We also provide transportation to vets for many elderly and disabled persons. This often entails follow-up calls and years of involvement in some cases.
