To Whom it May Concern,

It has recently come to my attention that the Girl Scouts of Cannon Valley in Northfield, MN plans to hold a fundraising event on Traxler's Preserve in order to raise money for Council. Aren't there any other ways to raise funds other than to set some vulnerable and beautiful birds loose and have hunters shoot at them?

As a society we ought to be moving forward in our treatment and respect of all animals and under no circumstances can this event be considered "fun." In fact, it is extremely offensive and reprehensible. Shouldn't other species be entitled to enjoyment of life and kids be taught their lives are worthwhile as well?

I hardly think that being part of this canned hunt will help the girls neither build character nor develop qualities such as a "social conscience." Quite the contrary.

I strongly recommend that this violent fundraiser by cancelled and replaced by a peaceful event which is more appropriate for today's times. The negative publicity garnered by this reflects poorly on the Girl Scouts everywhere.
