Cool Dude's story: Is it any wonder we're sceptical?

"Samantha" called Greater Victoria Animals' Crusaders this week needing help to neuter her kitten. Seems her kitten has an umbilical hernia that also needs to be fixed. This call included an interesting story.

Samantha paid the Victoria SPCA $35 for a vet voucher from the "Ginger Fund" (part of a $400,000 legacy left to the Victoria SPCA for the CARE OF CATS) and received a list of SPCA participating vets she could take her kitten to and redeem this voucher at. Unfortunately the majority of the vets also require shots and $120 more to fix the hernia. This is money that Samantha does not have.

Samantha had been told the hernia would be fixed for free by one of the SPCA's participating vets during his neuter surgery when she bought her voucher at the Victoria SPCA, but that turned out not to be the case.

After going back to the Victoria SPCA for assistance she called GVAC for help.

The result:
"Cool Dude" is having his surgery on the 13th of this month at a Vet Clinic that works with GVAC.

Costs to be paid are:
Samantha will put in her voucher which she paid the Victoria SPCA $35 for.

The SPCA will be billed $45 by the vet so that means the Victoria SPCA has contributed $10.

Greater Victoria Animals' Crusaders will pay the BALANCE to ensure "Cool Dude" the kitten will be healthy and happy.

Is it any wonder that many of us look at every BC SPCA announcement with a healthy dose of scepticism?
