SPCA deserves millions for the work they do
THE EDITOR:

It is true that there are numerous deserving animal charity groups, many run by volunteers.

However, are these charities responsible for enforcing provincial legislation in animal cruelty cases?

Are they required to do so with little or no funding from the legislative body they serve?

Are they managed in perpetuity so that donations and work do not stop with the death or retirement of the principle organizer?

I hope it is true that the SPCA receives millions of dollars in donations annually, as their job is huge and largely unsupported by either city or provincial governments. And are we willing to settle for any volunteer to manage assets of this size?

The truth is, that if the money belonged to you or me, we would be seeking out a very experienced, knowledgeable, well-trained person to manage and direct our money.

And in this day and age, that combination of skills does not come easily or cheaply.

Be prepared to pay for excellent management and hopefully the money so kindly donated will go even farther than it ever has before - effectively, safely and with compassion.'

Just don't ask me to help pay lawyers' fees and court costs
The SPCA should account for the thousands it spends on lawyers to keep the public in the dark
