I am a volunteer coordinator with the Vancouver branch of the SPCA, and I also sit on the advisory committee.
We have been doing adoption counselling on a part time basis, due to the fact that we don't have enough trained volunteers to operate the program full time.
Informally, we have found a lower return rate for adoptions that were assisted by an adoption counsellor. It appears that having assistance in choosing the right dog results in better placements which is better for everybody concerned, especially the dog.

I am wondering if you have any resources, or could point me towards a group, that would assist us in setting up an adoption counselling program at the Vancouver SPCA. Any information would be appreciated.
