Treatment of Dogs in China

My Hong Kong friend and colleague, Dr. John Wedderburn, has been researching the treatment of dogs in China.

Dr. Wedderburn speaks fluent Chinese and he has a Chinese wife. Both of these factors helped him to gain access to the dog markets. Dr. Shirley McGreal (International Primate Protection League)and I were not able to locate them when we were in China, despite prowling the back streets, so we had to limit ourselves to looking at zoos.

Here are Dr. John's comments

I have put up some photos of large breed Western dogs used for food production in China at:

http://www.aapn.org/peixian.html>

please click on the thumbnails to bring up the full photos.

I have another 63 photos of the same character and quality but they are largely repetitious except for the photos of the personnel.
You will note that the slaughtering and skinning are done in full view of the live dogs - there are pictures which show the corpses and the live St.Bernard Cross in the same photo.

There is some text at:

Best wishes.
John.
