Re: More revelations about the SPCA in Chilliwack

Thank you Wendy for not mincing any words. And thank you for promising 14 rabbits a loving home for the rest of their lives.
You are right, pet overpopulation is a community problem. But the reason it is a community problem is becasue the BCSPCA, the only organization in this province legally empowered to prevent this problem, consistenly does nothing. They don't ask for control of breeding laws. They don't ask for humane treatment of animals laws. They consistently fail to enforce the provincial Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. They sell unneutered animals. They allow their staff to breed dogs and cats.
What do they do? Well, they do animal control. They round up and kill or sell excess dogs for money. And occasionally they grandstand via the media by seizing dogs from a puppy mill they've been complained to about for years, lie low for a while, get some donations and public support, then kill most of the dogs. See this messageboard re the Beaverdell dogs and the Kelowna SPCA.

One wonders just how long the BCSPCA can carry on this charade they call animal welfare. They are supposed to be "moving forward in a new direction". There is the old saying, "you can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time". The more people who let the BCSPCA know they can't be fooled, the better. Thank you again Wendy, not for not being fooled, but for having the courage to publicize so directly what you know to be true.
