Trevor the dog is the victim!

For the Trevors of this world>>*Love & Light*

Trevor the dog is now on death row at the City of Whitehorse Bylaw Services.

It's not the first time Trevor has been in the pound. He was confiscated
last winter by Bylaw Services when he was neglected by his original "owner".
Firstly, I commend Bylaw officers for originally rescuing Trevor, and for
turning him over to the Humane Society shelter. All indications showed him
to be a gentle, friendly dog. But now he's back in the pound, and it looks
like he's going to be one of their death statistics for this year. They don't
hesitate to kill dogs. After all, they reported killing 24 dogs in 2008. And
for what reasons? Surely they weren't all "aggressive."

Reading recent articles in the papers, I saw that Matthew Allaby claimed
that Trevor was his dog. He also claimed not to know Trevor's history. But
the Humane Society blog indicates that Matthew Allaby was not the new owner
of Trevor. Matthew had no right to abandon Trevor at the city pound to be
killed. Why didn't he return Trevor to the shelter?

Tamara Allaby (Matthew's sister) adopted Trevor, according to the Humane
Society's records. She has breached her contract with the shelter, to care
for Trevor properly, or to take him back to the shelter. Why has she not
come forward? Why is Bylaw (to my knowledge, at this point) ignoring this
fact?

How could Matthew Allaby, or anyone else who wanted a dog destroyed, just
drop the dog off at Bylaw to be killed at taxpayer's expense?

The Humane Society is obligated to follow the rules of their contract and
reclaim Trevor from Bylaw Services. It appears to me, he was abandoned by his adoptive owner,
and he should be back in the shelter's care. Let's not betray him again. The
Humane Society blog indicates they are trying to get Trevor back. I hope
Bylaw Services will acknowledge the contract set forth for all animals
adopted out by the shelter, and will release Trevor to them.

Has there been any follow-up on Trevor's living conditions at Tamara Allaby's
home (or Matthew's; did he take Trevor right away?) If so, what conditions
was Trevor living in? If they haven't checked on it, why not? How much
effort does the Humane Society put into follow-up on the animals they adopt
or foster out?

I appreciate the good intentions of the shelter for the animals in their
care, except if the animals end up in an abusive or neglectful situation,
the end result is not in the best interests of the animals. After all,
humane means kind. Placing an animal in a worse situation than the one he or
she came from is not humane, and is therefore not kind.

Trevor has now been neglected and abandoned twice (that we know of). He
deserves better than being killed in a cage. A lot of time and care was put
into Trevor in order to give him a second chance in life. Let's please give
him that chance, and not let him down again.
