Cold Noses Warm Beds - The Truth

The undercover investigation of what happens to dogs imported from Animal Advocates Alliance of California (AAAC) to be sold in BC by "Beady" Singer who owns Cold Noses Warm Beds of Langley BC, which Singer calls a rescue organization. No one from AAAC checks on what happens to the dogs they have rescued, who they have often spent a lot of money on for vet treatment, once they are in Singer's hands. If they had ever seen Singer's "adoption" agreement they would see that it is a sales contract, not an adoption agreement. AAAC should, at the least, require copies of the agreements so that they have records of where their rescued dogs end up. They are clearly well-intentioned, but the road to hell for these dogs was paved with their good intentions but naive practices.

But it is Singer who is rightly exposed for selling dogs to anyone, any age, even when knowing that some will be resold. As this expose says, that is not rescue. The exposers call Singer a broker which she is not; she is a retailer, selling dogs the same way pet stores do. Brokers collect goods, or other products, from producers, and sell them to retailers (as the Hunte Corporation does http://www.austinspetdirectory.com/petland.html). If the product is dogs, the broker buys them from puppymills to be sold to pet stores Singer is the retailer of another organization's rescued dogs.

Singer is heard saying that she worked with the SPCA for fifteen years. Fifteen years ago the BCSPCA also sold dogs (and other animals) to anyone who would pay. It had a sales contract labelled "sales contract", which was at least more honest than Singer's "adoption" form. Only in the last few years did the BCSPCA begin some screening, though still does very few, if any, home checks. In one instance, where an ethical branch refused to adopt a dog to a man who intended to keep it as an outside dog, the branch was chastised by Head Office and told that the SPCA does not refuse to sell a dog on those grounds. The man who was turned down was sold a dog by another, less ethical, SPCA branch. Perhaps Singer learned her trade at the SPCA.

AAS looks forward to finding out if this amazing investigation results in the end of Singer's business. And if she just moves her business to her home, that the exposers take their evidence to that municipality's council and demand, at the least, that she be made to get a business licence which would allow the SPCA to inspect without a warrant. Keeping animals that have untreated medical conditions are grounds for seizure under the PCA Act. If no business licence can be issued, then AAS hopes the exposers follow Singer to wherever she next runs her business.
