World Week for Animals in Laboratories: Two events this week

Please Help Stop UBC Animal Cruelty! Please Help Spread the Word About the Humane Seal Campaign!

Please join us and encourage others to help out at two events during this coming World Week for Animals in Laboratories:

On Wednesday, April 21st outside the University of British Columbia's Student Union Building, 12-3 pm, we will be leafleting on behalf of the Stop UBC Animal Cruelty campaign. Every year, more than 100,000 animals are involved in research at UBC and its affiliated institutions. Among these helpless creatures, an increasing number are being rubber stamped to endure procedures 'near, at, or above the pain tolerance threshold of unanesthetized, conscious animals". (The CCAC's own words.)

This torture has been compared to that suffered by prisoners of war and may not end with the conclusion of the project: the wounded animals will often be recycled for use in further, equally destructive, always avoidable, experiments.

Saturday, April 24th finds us outside the Robson Street entrance to the Vancouver Art Gallery, 11 am - 5 pm.

Please come for part or all of the day! We will be leafleting for the vital HumaneSeal.org campaign. The Humane Seal of Approval is administered by the Council on Humane Giving, and is the public's assurance that their generous donations are never directed toward animal experimentation. Many foremost scientists deplore the continued reliance on animal research to solve mankind's ills. We have some great signs, books, stickers: if anyone wants to come as their favourite 'animal in a laboratory' ie, rat, rabbit, cat, dog, monkey, frog, fish... or wear a white lab coat.... that would be truly evocative.....

And attached is a downloadable poster: please print out copies to post in your favourite coffee shops, 'green' stores, vegan restaurants, wherever they will be seen: even if you can't join in on our events, here is a great way of caring.

Hope to see you next week!

Anne
