A Year in the Life of a Puppy Trafficker

PG runs a lucrative home-based business in the City of Langley. Most weeks she advertises $3,000 to $4,000 worth of product to her potential customers. Her inventory turns over quickly, she rarely places two ads for the same stock. PG makes good money selling puppies.

Since April of 2002 AAS volunteers have been tracking ads PG has placed in newspapers and on websites. In addition to the nearly constant ads for "small to large breed pups, various prices", the following is a month by month accounting of the specific breeds PG has offered for sale over the last year.

April 2002: Shih Tzu crosses.

May 2002: Japanese Chins, Shih Tzus, Golden Retrievers, Miniature Schnauzers, Pugs, Border Collie Australian Shepherd crosses, Boston Terrier crosses, Miniature Dachshunds, American Pitbull Terriers, and Cocker Spaniel crosses.

PG isn't alone, there are thousands of ads tracked in AAS's Database of Puppy Traffickers. The top advertisers, including VL and KL of Langley, DS of North Vancouver, and LL of Langley, advertise more than a litter a week on average. Like PG, they are all running businesses that are required to have business licenses, collect and remit PST and GST, and
report income to Revenue Canada.
