SPCA leaves 20 dogs in the deplorable conditions that they took the better dogs from *LINK* *PIC*

Yes, I believe that it is tragic that too many of the large breed dogs and crosses of those breeds are currently in unsuitable living conditions or with inappropriate or uninformed owners with questionable motives. Yet, we are informed by the media that only some of the dogs found at a mass breeding of Mastiffs facility were removed in a recent seizure by the SPCA. Those that remain left behind are apparently existing in the same unsuitable housing that the seized dogs had available and according to the owner, are older and "not as good" as the Mastiffs and one small dog which were taken.

Is the situation such that there is suitable housing available only for the number of dogs left behind ? If so, how does that have bearing on the fact which was quoted by the media that only younger and good dogs were removed ?

I believe that this particular case requires a second opinion by a group entirely independent of the BCSPCA. The purpose, as I see it, would be to provide verification or contradiction to the condition of the existing housing facilities for these very large breed dogs and to the physical and psychological condition of the seized as well as the unseized dogs.

If the seized Mastiffs remain as property of the BCSPCA, I strongly recommend that the adoption process be handled jointly by the BCSPCA and a well established breed specific Animal Welfare\Rescue group. Since dogs listed as available for adoption on SPCA web sites throughout the province have specified the condition of "breed savvy" applicants only, I believe that working closely with a "breed savvy" rescue group will be an asset in the adoption process as well as a benefit to the future quality of life for the dogs which are being rehomed.

In conclusion,I must add the fact that during my Internet search for local Mastiff Rescue Groups and\or Mastiff breeders, included in the results of both searches is the name of the owner of the dogs and of the breeding facility from which the dogs were seized by the SPCA , according to media reports.

The link provided shows an outline of the
rehab\adoption process followed by one Mastiff Rescue Group. The picture is one of the dogs rehabilitated and rehomed by the same Rescue organization.
