Saltspring Island's SPCA joins the crowd

I drove a disabled woman to the local SPCA today. She has an extremly low, fixed income. She took in her form to have her cat spayed. The staff person on duty informed her that the Saltspring SPCA no longer does ANY spay/neuter assistance of unsurrendered pets. The woman's advocate called and confirmed that this was indeed what they had said.

Yet, on the branch's website, they claim to have BOTH a "Pay for a Spay" program and the "SNAP" - spay/neuter action plan.

They have an annual Walkathon which they claim is to raise money for spay/neuter, an annual auction for the same purpose, and a fund-raising table outside the grocery store, every week. This is a small, well-funded SPCA branch, dealing only with cats and rabbits. Where does the money go?

I run a small feral cat rescue group on the island, yet I will be paying to have this cat spayed, and I will take the kittens by ferry to Vancouver Island where they will have pediatric spay/neuters done by another rescue group BEFORE they are adopted.
