Attempts to “wear both hats” at the same time so to speak can only result in secrecy....

This information far exceeds the category of “strange bedfellows”. Facts documented in this post alone are all that are needed for any judge in any court to see the dual role that the BCSPCA is required to fulfill in regard to the conflicting stated mandates of the PIJAC and the BCSPCA.

In my opinion it is impossible to function in both organizations while maintaining the transparency, honesty, animal-serving priorities, and integrity which are expected, and rightly so, by people in all communities across our province and deserved by all animals with which we share our environment.

Attempts to “wear both hats” at the same time so to speak can only result in secrecy, self-centered decisions, inconsistency, manipulation and frantic chaos.

According to information provided directly by the Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council, I believe that an individual or group which is affiliated with the Council supports, by association, all aspects of the mandate, mission , priorities, and activities of this Council. The information found on PIJAC’s web site has brought the truth to light and confirms the validity and extremely serious consequences suffered by helpless animals which critics of the BCSPCA and the pet trade industry have been reporting and taking action to help animals with dedication, persistence and personal sacrifice.

The pet trade industry is an extremely lucrative source of income which can be maintained and increased by destroying and negatively impacting the lives of innocent animals just as the sex trade and drug trade destroys the lives of many innocent young people.

Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council (PIJAC) is the world’s largest 'pet trade' association, representing all segments of the pet industry:
'retailers,
wholesale/distributors,
companion animal suppliers,'
manufacturers,
manufacturers’ representatives,
hobbyist groups and other trade organizations.

PIJAC's Mission

PIJAC, whose mission is 'to ensure the availability of companion animals to sustain the entire pet industry,' focuses on education, information and governmental issues involving 'pet stores, companion animal supply and restrictions or obstacles to pet ownership.'
-To represent and promote the interests of all segments of the 'pet industry'.
-To monitor legislation and regulation affecting the 'pet industry' at all levels of government and to 'support or oppose enactment of such legislation and regulations in the best interest of the pet industry' and the public.
-To promote research into the 'breeding', care, feeding, handling, 'importation' and maintenance of pets.
-To collect, analyze, publish, and distribute information of interest to the pet industry and the public.
-To promote the humane treatment of animals by everyone. * This statement is in conflict with other aspects of the Mission Statement*
-To establish appropriate and generally acceptable standards of animal care within the 'pet industry' and to promote recognition and observance of such standards.
-To promote public recognition of the importance of the 'pet industry' and the value of the services it provides.
-For the attainment of the above objectives, to provide for the holding of 'pet industry trade shows', lectures, symposiums, exhibitions, meetings, classes and conferences.
-'To receive and maintain a fund or funds' and apply from time to time all or part thereof and/or the income therefrom toward the attainment of the above objectives.
-'To educate consumers on responsible pet care and ownership.' *Another statement in conflict with stated mission practice.
-'To educate pet retailers, distributors and breeders on responsible care and handling procedures.
-To encourage programs to develop a better understanding of our animal friends, their environments and specifically their ability to coexist in pet/pet owner relationships.' *Both statements will allow for maintenance and growth of the pet industry.

PIJAC, as the full name states, exists for the maintenance and growth of the Pet Industry. As an affiliate of this organization, the BCSPCA 's actions are in agreement, support and partnership with the Mission Statement and objectives of PIJAC. It is not possilbe to serve that role within the Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council and to call yourself and claim to be the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Neither is it possible for the BCSPCA to deny that it is a part of the Pet Trade Industry.
