Re: Iams will stop killing beagles after litters are weaned *LINK* *PIC*

What IAMS says: (www.iamstruth.com) We will not fund or participate in any study requiring or resulting in the EUTHANASIA of cats or dogs. We will only conduct research that is the veterinary equivalent to nutritional or medical studies acceptable on people, including: urine, feces, blood and immune cell analysis, allergy tests, and skin and muscle biopsies, for which adequate anesthesia and analgesics will be provided whenever necessary.

What PETA says: (www.iamscruelty.com) One current Iams study protocol at Auburn University calls for 80 to 120 geriatric beagles to be impregnated and then KILLED after their puppies are weaned.

What the Cincinatti Enquirer says: (to be archived at 11:55 p.m.today) Credibility is another factor. As early as in 1999, Iams announced that it would no longer kill animals at the end of studies, and yet it is believed that a current Iams study protocol at Auburn University calls for 80 to 120 geriatric beagles to be impregnated and then killed after their puppies are weaned. Many of the litters have already been born, and some are even past the point of weaning, so it is quite possible that these beagles are already dead.

CONCLUSION: Which source are we to believe? I think it is still premature to celebrate saving the lives of 80 - 120 Beagle's.
