Elizabeth Eckert asked over and over, "What is the SPCA doing to put itself out of business?" *PIC*

AAS dear friend and Director, Elizabeth Eckert, always said to us and in public when she spoke at municipal council meetings as an AAS Director, that she would trust the SPCA only when it did what would put it out of business. She asked the question, "What is the SPCA doing to put itself out of business?", over and over.

Like hundreds of thousands of people in BC, Elizabeth had already written the SPCA off, figuratively and financially, long before she found AAS.

The experience that opened Elizabeth's eyes and sickened her, was similar to the hundreds of stories that AAS has been told for ten years. Elizabeth had gone into the North Vancouver SPCA to offer to volunteer. As she was reading the notice board, two rough young males came in and asked to see the Doberman, saying openly that they wanted a tough guard dog. They bought the dog in five minutes, not one question asked. Elizabeth, feeling sick for that pup and sickened to remember how much money she had given the SPCA over the years, trustingly believing that they were "there for the animals", left the SPCA a changed woman. She changed from a naive and trusting supporter of the SPCA into an enemy of the SPCA.
