To: Geoff Plant, BC Attorney General

As a financial supporter of the BCPSCA and someone who's very concerned with the welfare of animals in this province, I respectfully ask that you investigate the BCSPCA under Bill 63 "The Charitable Purposes Preservation Act".

The BCSPCA has not filed the audited financial statements required of it by BC law for at least the past three years, possibly ever. Consequently, donators and supporters have not been able to verify whether the money they send is in fact being spent where they intend it to be. Given that the SPCA receives an estimated $15 million in annual public donations, presumably sent by animal lovers who want the money spent directly on the animals, it is troubling for people to learn that the SPCA is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on SLAPP legal suits aimed at silencing its critics, who many British Columbians believe are justified. If in fact the SPCA is using public donations on law suits instead of spending it on the animals, then it is an abuse of the public trust.

If an investigation under Bill 63 is not possible because the SPCA does not have the required audited financial statements, then I ask that the BC Government appoint an Ombudsman and immediately perform their own audit of the BCSPCA to ensure the integrity and protection of all future public donations received by this organization.

Thank you.
