The SPCA should be responsible dog and cat guardians by ensuring that the animals in their care receive a proper and consistent, high quality diet

As a member of the public also involved in animal welfare I find it outrageous that the BC SPCA is constantly begging for animal welfare basics. Craig Daniell, in many public forums, has said that animal welfare has not been reduced in any of the branches by the many, many cutbacks he has made.

Victoria is one of the wealthiest branches with legacies totalling never less than $300,000 a year and sometimes up to millions. With this kind of revenue coming into the facility you would think they could afford to buy proper food to feed their animals. However it appears they cannot.

Proper nutrition is a basic of animal welfare and one the SPCA expects indvidual owners to provide.

The BC SPCA should also be responsible dog and cat guardians by ensuring that the animals in their care receive a proper and consistent, high quality diet. This is seldom provided through donated food.

From the Victoria SPCA website, dated Nov.9, 2004:

We are in desperate need of Technical adult/kitten dry and any kind of canned cat food. Please help us to help the many cats in our care!
Nov. 02/04:We are also in desperate need of Nutro Lamb/Rice dry dog food & Pedigree canned!
As our animals are already in a very stressful environment, we like to try and keep them on a diet of the same food on a day to day basis. For this reason we would like to request donations of Nutro Lamb & Rice Dry Dog Food, Pedigree Canned Dog Food and Technical Kitten Dry and Canned (for the cats!). (We also would like any type of canned adult cat food you can spare)
