Animal Advocates Watchdog

It's all here. It's all clear. Yet the BC SPCA still pursues corrupting animal control contracts. Will SPCA leaders ever join the 21st century?

All this is what AAS first pointed out many years ago. Any organization that claims to be preventing cruelty and promoting animal welfare while taking money to dispose of unwanted animals is fraudulent. The mere fact of that is fraud. But fraud leads to more fraud and that is what happened at the BC SPCA. No expensive cruelty prevention was done for a hundred years, not until the SPCA saw a way to make money at it. Then it began seizing healthy animals and fooling the media and the courts into thinking that, even though the animals were healthy, that it had an honest belief that the animals had to be seized. As soon as it started doing this, its donations increased.

More fraud? That it operates "shelters". No shelter kills the sheltered. No shelter keeps the sheltered in such inhumane conditions that the conditions are used as a justification for killing the sheltered.

More fraud? That it is purely "irresponsible pet owners" who are to blame for it having to kill. No one is holding a gun to the SPCA's head, forcing it to take every unwanted animal. It chose that for the revenue it generates by having heart-tugging, constantly full shelters, and lots of new free product to sell. It enabled, entrenched and encouraged a culture of pet dumping that supplied its used-pet stores with lots of free product to sell, and then blamed the dumpers.

More fraud? That it trains staff in killing but there is no training in animal welfare or animal behaviour or rehabilitation.

More fraud? That it makes animal sick in its overcrowded, diseased facilities and then kills them instead of curing them.

More fraud? That it tells purchasers that it is okay to crate a dog if it has separation anxiety. And that it is okay to leave a dog outside all day, even a short-haired breed in the north.

More fraud? For over one hundred years, it sold intact animals that were then bred again. That is called "feeding your own industry". It has only partly stopped selling intact animals in the last year and that only because it was one of the things it was not going to get away with for much longer. Too many people were publicly questioning.

More fraud? That it seizes breeding dogs that are healthy and better taken care of than the "care" the SPCA gives, for the media attention, but it will not seize chained dogs. Why not? Is it because there is no media value in one chained dog?

More fraud? You add it here....
