Tiffany and others who may be concerned about the cat cages to be used...
The Delta Humane Society will be using these cages to isolate incoming cats until they are vaccinated and vet checked. After much research this has been found to be one of the most effective ways to house cats but keep disease to a minimum.
There will be 6 of these cages in an iso area that will be made as bright, airy and comfy as possible in the crummy shelter that is there now. Every cat will have bedding, toys, hiding areas and lots of TLC when in this iso area. Volunteers will be encouraged to visit them and anyone looking for a lost animal will be welcome to view them.
There will be another 6 of these cages in the main cat adoption room as well for cats to come in and out of as they please or on rotation depending on who get along with who. All cats will have space to roam in the room and some will not have cages at all.
We are a work in progress and have been advised by vets, other organizations here and in the U.S. as to the best way to house cats in a shelter as small and outdated as the Delta shelter is. We need to not only keep the cats happy but also keep disease to a minimum.
It is our hope to have a cat house built on the property as soon as possible and we will be fundraising and seeking help to build this in the new year.
A new, larger shelter in a different location is what is really needed! But for now, we will do the best we can and keep the animals as happy and healthy as possible with the limited space and resources we have at the present time.
We are open to suggestions, volunteers and donations to help us achieve these goals!
