BURNABY I Police and the SPCA are looking for a 15-year-old boy and his pit bull after the dog allegedly attacked a 48-year-old man near the Eastburn Community Centre.

Officials say a tan-coloured pit-bull cross -- with black markings on its muzzle, chest and paws -- allegedly bit the man in the face Friday afternoon.

The man went to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries to the bridge of his nose and to his upper palate.

Police say the owner, who is described as a 15-year-old Caucasian with blond hair, picked the dog up after the attack and fled the scene.

Mark Takhar, manager of the Burnaby Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, said the dog was not on a leash and not wearing a muzzle, as the law all pit bulls in Burnaby are required to do.

"The owner is very irresponsible in taking care of the animal," Takhar said.

Takhar said the SPCA and the Burnaby RCMP are searching for the dog and owner, and will take appropriate measures once they are found.

"We have the authority to seize this dog, because the dog has attacked someone," Takhar said.
