Isolation is the greatest cruelty of all. That is why we imprison and isolate humans. Death is preferable to a lifetime of isolation.

Yet many people in BC, even in the urban, educated centers, inflict this cruelty on dogs..with impunity. No SPCA or municipality will ban it.

Dogs are treated as livestock by many people, not the companion animals they were bred for ten thousand years to be. The irony is that the SPCA permits dogs to be treated in ways that it would seize any other animal for being kept. If a cat was reported chained to a cat house, the SPCA would seize the cat if the owner would not stop that treatment. Even if a horse were on a 10" chain 24/7, the SPCA would take action.

Why won't it stop people from doing this to dogs? Are they afraid of the racism card? AAS has found that in the Lower Mainland, almost 100% of this mistreatment of dogs is by immigrants, mostly east Asian (except the Japanese).

Is it because there is no media hook for helping a single dog and so no outpouring of donations?

It's probably both, but mostly the latter. The SPCA makes sure the media gets plenty of "good TV" footage.
