It's so sad, but Jessop is as good a defender as Pit Bulls get. She is coarse and illogical. Not all the people who defend the existence in our society of dogs bred to fight are coarse, but they are all illogical. Only a few are clever, those who are self-serving, who make a living in some way from dogs and do not want to risk enraging their uncomprehending donators, clients, voters, and readers.

Diane Jessop is constantly held up by Pit Bull defends as a model of an intelligent, rational defender. The breed she makes a living from by defending are, when compared to its population numbers (and also, in close to real terms), the number one killer of humans, almost all of them children. And also of untold millions of other dogs, most of them harmless little breeds. The fact that anyone would defend the existence of fighting breeds of dogs, forces one to question those persons' sanity.

Jessop has either not bothered to read all our posts on Pit Bulls, or she has, and is deliberately ignoring that we have written many times, that we do not hate any dog or any breed of dog.

We have rescued many Pit Bulls and crosses. We know that many of them are sweethearts. But that does not override the fact that Pit Bulls are bred to fight.

Pit Bull defenders know that pounds all over the world are bursting with Pit Bulls abandoned by the type of low-life dog owner who favours the breed. Most of them are killed. Yet we have been told that when Jessop is asked to take a rescued Pit Bull, she can't. Nor can any local Pit Bull rescue group. That is because the breed they defend is too dangerous to be with other dogs and there is no place for even a fraction of them.

The Pit Bulls that are here must be judged on their merits when they end up at pounds, the same as any other dog. But to keep breeding more, who may suffer the short, brutish, lives that so many live, and who may kill a pet or a child, is selfish madness.

The world turned and people had dogs to love before Pit Bulls were created for the fighting pit, and the world will continue to turn and there will still be dogs to love, about 400 different breeds of them, when Pit Bulls are a shocking footnote to dog-breeding history.

For many reason, the West can claim the moral highgound over third-world countries: civil rights, universal education, the rule of law, democracy - but the existence of fighting breeds and of the huge manstopper breeds, puts us on the same dark-ages level as cultures that do not have our advantages. The existence of a sub-culture of dog-fighting breeders and owners is a disgrace -- and creepy, in my opinion.
