The SPCA can't just be honest

From the Victoria SPCA website:
http://www.spca.bc.ca/victoria/

Inaccurate sections:
http://www.spca.bc.ca/victoria/emergency.htm
The Victoria SPCA provides 24 hour emergency service to south Vancouver Island as far north as the Malahat. We provide ambulance services for any injured domestic or wild animals in our service area as well as assistance to Police, Fire and Ambulance when animals are involved in human emergencies.

Comment:
It has a number to phone. I was told by a CAC member that no one is on duty at night anymore and the time it would take to organise this is considerable. Also, I called Wild Arc and was told that I needed to transport the injured bird myself as the SPCA no longer did. The Victoria SPCA has one van on the road and my understanding is that it is dedicated strictly to cruelty investigation.

250-385-6521 IS THE EMERGENCY NUMBER....It is not very helpful to someone in distress. Perhaps you would like to listen to it yourself. I noted the phone numbers were only said once and that means most people would have to phone back at least one more time to get the correct numbers to then phone to listen to more instructions.

"The law requires that stray animals be held for a period of 4 days, so that owners have an opportunity to reclaim their lost pet. Once the holding period is over, the animal is put up for adoption."

Comment:
Neither Victoria Animal Control Services nor The CRD Animal Shelter are obligated to put any animal up for adoption - anymore than the SPCA is or does. This makes people think adoption is guaranteed. The reality for many stray and feral animals is euthanasia and that is not mentioned. Why make people think the reality is warm and fuzzy when the reality isn't?

Interestingly the lost and found pages have been updated on Jan 5, 2005 but the last dog listed was lost in November of 2003. It does not appear the pages are functional at all.

Finally at the bottom of the front page of the website is this:
Home Page | Adoptable Animals / Shelters & Branches | Site Directory | News, Features & Programs | Animal Care | Humane Education | For Youth | Volunteering | Help Us Help the Animals | Membership | AnimalSense Magazine | Pet on the Net | Farm Animals | About Us | FAQ / Contact Us | Resources | Links | Search | Anim@ls E-Bulletins

Comment:
Of all of these perhaps three are functional. The Victoria Website gives the illusion of being helpful. In reality it is a marketing tool for selling dogs and cats.
