Coun. Mae Reid is concerned that the City of Coquitlam traps and kills, on average, eight or nine beavers a year.

"I think it's disgusting, and I'm going to keep pursuing this," she said Monday.

A staff report requested by a committee Reid chairs says the city uses traps only where beaver dams will result in flooding or other property damage. City spokeswoman Therese Mickelson said Tuesday staff first attempt other measures, such as dismantling dams several times, before resorting to trapping.
