Rubin Carter and the SPCA

The Sun: March 5, 2005 In reveiwing "The Death of Innocents: an eyewitness about of wrongful executions", by Sister Helen Prejean, Rubin "Hurricane" Carter writes: "In the criminal justice system, innocence means nothing, and retribution means everything."

He mentions, "junk science and forensic fraud" in the case of Guy Paul Morin, convicted of the death of nine-year old Christine Jessop.

RCMP and Crown hid evidence that could have exonerated Morin. Over and over we learn that the law, if it can't win honestly (and it has to be seen to win often or citizens would lose faith in the law's ability to protect us), it will win dishonestly, crookedly, ruthlessly, even evilly. The law does not care if the wrong persons are executed or jailed for life for a crime which they didn't commit. Winning is what pays big salaries, and leads to power and promotion for both the police and Crown prosecutors.

That is what I believe is happening with the SPCA and the Crown, and a lot of lawyers now see it the same way. This must change.
